We sat down with Omada’s CFO for an informal chat about her career journey, and what it means to be a woman in finance, cybersecurity, and in the C-Suite.
My name is Mads Peitersen, and I am a Principal Customer Success Manager & Solutions Architect at Omada. I live in Copenhagen, Denmark, and work out of Omada HQ.
I originally joined Omada after a former stop at a sports software company when a classmate told me about Omada at a university reunion event. My educational background had been a good deal of engineering, math, and science, with a little bit of coding sprinkled in. With my background in tech, I knew that to get where I wanted to be in my career path I would need to get some hands-on experience closer to the commercial and business side. With that in mind, I applied, went through the interview process, and started as an Associate Consultant at Omada in August of 2018.
I have since worked my way up to my current position, but in that time I have had a lot of inward reflection and figuring out what I want to do in my career and with my life. What I have liked the most about my time at Omada is an openness and willingness to work with everyone about identifying what it is they are passionate about doing, and what they want to do. In my case, I have had conversations with managers, peers, and mentors about being a people manager, working on operations, leading technology teams, and more. My career path has not been one that follows a linear path, but rather is uniquely tailored to me and my strengths and interests.
When thinking about why I would recommend to someone the concept of joining Omada, I always think of my own experiences. I knew that I wanted to work with a product vendor and sit close to where the development of the product was happening. I thought it would be great to use the experience that I had from the field, as well as my education to bring a fresh perspective and have an influence on where the product was going by talking to customers every day about how to optimize it. A big part of wanting to join Omada was being able to take that customer feedback and bring it into the product world. The opportunity that Omada presented was huge, as I was encouraged from day 1 to bring my ideas and perspective into the role.
I’ve always had managers here who not only allowed me to take on these types of responsibilities but encouraged me. I have worked at companies in the past that were one-dimensional and put people in pigeonholes, but at Omada, titles do not indicate what you do daily. Having that freedom to express opinions and pursue opportunities is awesome, and the best piece of advice I could give to someone who either has just joined Omada, or is thinking of doing so, is to be curious, and not be afraid to fail. Anyone can come in and make a huge impact at Omada, especially because it’s a place you can come in and challenge yourself. There will be moments when you are thrown into the deep end and explore new things, but anyone ambitious, intellectually curious, and eager to learn can make a huge difference.
